On the first small PStwo Sony made a design mistake. The lasercoils get overloaded and may burn out. This simple solution prevent any problems. It is only needed for version 12 and version 13. That are the model numbers SCPH-70012 and SCPH-7000x (x for 0 to 6). Earlier and later models don't have this problem.
