Problems reading your Backups:

A common problem with older Playstations is Full Motion Video skipping and even locking up. Sometimes the PSX won't even load BACKUPS at all, just freeze up at the PSX logo. So if your Playstation ever freezes up, skips or ticks, this trick is for you. First of all let me tell you what the problem is, Sony makes inferior lasers. And if your lucky enough to have a OLDER PSX (1001 etc) chances are you have a even worse laser. The laser gets bumped around and dirty etc and has a hard time reading the copied disks.

How to fix this..  One trick you can try is turn your PSX upside down.  50% of the time this will work, your Playstation will play fine if you have it sitting upside down while playing. You can also try resting it against the wall to have it on its side or at an angle. The reason this works is because the floating laser sits at a closer position to the CD and it can read it better.

If that didn't work for you or you just don't like having your PSX upside down, you can try what is called  POT adjusting. Basically what it does is adjusts the power to the laser. Take your PSX apart. Take laser housing off and find where the ribbon cable is attached to it. Right where the ribbon is connected to the laser housing, there is a small round silver screw. This is a variable resistor, it adjusts power to the laser. There should be a small line going across it (up and down). Use a small screw driver or knife to turn this dial to the right 1/8 (approx. 20% or to the 2 o'clock position). This should work. Play around with it, turn it more, turn it less, just never more than a full turn and never back further than it was to start.
